Hello Daniel! I’m glad you like the idea of the article. My idea, while coming up with this interaction was to provide quick access or a shortcut to certain features of an application. I believe every app should have a specific use-case for this interaction. Yes, the user at first might not guess that there is such an option integrated in the navigation bar, but with an appropriate tutorial the learning curve should be pretty flat. One way to avoid associative disturbances between the icon and the action could be by providing a single trigger (as mentioned in the example – trigger on home only). That way the user doesn’t need to memorise triggers of each navigation bar element. That said, there is a need for more discussion about this interaction to bring the best of it to use!
